I'm back!

-- This year in baseball didn't happen. Hell, I'm still trying to figure out where 1997 went.

-- The Canadiens started out well, but I guess reality is starting to settle in...we started off like a 4 or 5 seed type of team, but I suppose that couldn't last. That said, I still keep the faith for a playoff spot, but I damn sure ain't holding my breath. I say Theodore gets 30 games to prove that he's back to his old self...if not, Mathieu Garon just may be worth an extended look...he was fantastic in a 2-0 loss to Boston (I love satellite, even though I have to watch the replays, cause I don't have the NHL package), and he already has robbed a game from Detroit. Fuckin' DETROIT.

-- Arsenal keeps rolling along...they beat Chelsea, and got a well-earned point at Charlton Athletic (one of those teams that aren't much on paper, but goddamn you don't want to play them when something's on the line...their manager, Alan Curbishley, is a GENIUS). On the other side of the coin, it looks like we're crashing out of Europe even earlier than expected. I mean, I know the away games at iceholes in Russia and the Ukraine are difficult, but we're fucking ARSENAL. Meanwhile, we didn't get bent over by the FA (as usual) over the whole fracas during the Man United game. A few fringe players out for four matches, Vieira and Parlour only out for one. That's fine. I can deal.

-- Speaking of soccer, saw a soccer movie that I didn't even know existed today. Robert Duvall and Michael Keaton in a movie about Scottish soccer, called "A Shot at Glory". It was actually REALLY fucking good, with a surprisingly competent performance by Scottish legend Ally McCoist (probably on a level with Vinnie Jones in Snatch and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels). The actual soccer scenes were brilliantly done, and the story is extremely engaging and well-acted. It caught life in the lower divisions amazingly well, and is worth a viewing, even if you aren't a fan of the sport.

-- I am already bored to fucking tears with LeBron James. Can we wait until he's OLD ENOUGH TO DRINK before proclaiming him the Basketball Jesus? Thanks.

-- Oh, and I'm BEYOND bored with Kobe, and Shaq/Kobe, and ANYTHING related. ENOUGH.

-- Fucking HELL, it's great to have internet again. Yup.

Ugh

-- I needed a Yankees/Marlins World Series like I need an inoperable tumor at the base of my spine.

-- That said, Yankees in 5. I like their pitching, I don't buy Florida against a real team.

-- What would make me feel REALLY better about that whole thing is if Arsenal stuffs four or five past Chelsea this weekend. English soccer did NOT need a moneybags owner throwing the transfer market out of whack right when it settled back to reality. They may be top of the league thanks to goal difference, but I can't see them winning at Highbury. Official prediction: Arsenal 2, Chelsea 1.

-- Other than that, I got nothing. NUFFINK.

I was actually disappointed...

...that my viewing of the England-Turkey soccer game at a VERY pro-Turkish bar didn't turn into a riot (Eng-ger-land got the draw they needed, and the Turks were PISSED)...cracking a few skulls very possibly would have made me feel better about my situation and life in general. Heh.

-- My take on the Pedro thing: Pedro was stupid. Zimmer was stupid. The Yankees were stupid. The Red Sox were stupid. The umpires handled it about as well as anyone could have. That about cover it?

-- Still rooting for the Sox-Cubs "Something's Gotta Give!" World Series. I just may be rooting for the Cubs to win it now.

-- Canadiens 4, Maple Leafs 0 = very, VERY happy Swift.

-- I've never seen ANYTHING like the Metrostars-Burn match from this weekend...in a 0-0 final, their keeper, D.J. Countess (former Metro) saved TWO penalties, ad our Jonny Walker saved one as well. You never, ever see that outside of shootouts.

-- That's about it. Life isn't very interesting at the moment.

No internet access sucks...

...and I have like half an hour left here at the internet cafe, so some things really quickly...

-- Dany Heatly deserves everything he gets. Personally, I look forward to him taking it up the ass from Bubba any day now...guess what, shithead? Just because you're a pro athlete and a star and all that does NOT make you invincible...the worst thing is that this reckless asshole didn't kill himself...he killed someone else, and that just goes to show there's no justice in the world.

-- The Arsenal game was awesome this weekend, and made so much better by watching it in a packed bar full of people just as passionate about the sport as I am. With 50-50 support for us and Liverpool, it had almost a Cup Final atmosphere to it (well...not THAT much...maybe a cup semi-final)...and, a WONDER STRIKE from "Super" Robert Pires gave us a 2-1 win and all three points. 4 out of 6 points from away matches at Old Trafford and Anfield...why the hell can't we do this in Europe? How do we go from a complete capitulation at home to Inter Milan, where our back four were absolutely shambolic, to clinical, composed, battling performances at Old Trafford and Anfield just a few weeks later? Maybe Europe's gotten in our heads...who knows? However, we've got a point from Lokomotiv Moscow on the road, and we should be able to take them at home. Also, this Dynamo Kiev isn't the same Kiev that's tortured us in years past (though I still think Andrei Shovkovsky's the best goalkeeper that nobody's ever heard of).

-- Awesome, battling performance from the Metrostars too, come to think of it. To go into San Jose and take out the league's best team (in a shutout to boot) is just terrific. Even better was watching wunderkind Landon Donovan completely melt down...he should have gotten sent off about four separate times. At any rate, we've clinched a playoff spot, and we beat the Scum to get into the US Open Cup Final (our very first appearance in a final of any kind, mind you). Bob Bradley is our Lord and Savior.

-- The S.F. Giants completely deserved what they got (god, do I REALLY FUCKING HATE THE MARLINS at this point). Now, we're apparently lopping off payroll and rebuilding...whatever. This team's not winning a World Series in my lifetime anyway. Personally, I'm rooting for a Cubs-Sox series along with all the rest of the neutrals.

-- The WWF just fucking SUCKS these days. I would love to meet the people who apparently are DEMANDING the McMahon Family Variety Hour. That's basically all I have to say about that.

-- Satellite dishes are the most wonderful invention ever...with a zillion sports channels, I now get MLW Underground, NWA-TNA Explosion, and can watch the Canadiens whenever they play the NY-NJ teams, Boston, Tampa Bay (maybe Florida, too), Detroit, Minnesota, Chicago, and who knows who else? If I just had TSN and CBC, I'd be SET.

-- Speaking of which, hockey season's just around the corner. And, unless our kids grow up REAL fast, or Gainey makes some miracle moves during the season, I think Montreal's looking at more of the same this season...30 wins or so, and a 9th or 10th place finish. Wheeeeeeeeee.

Time's running out....more eventually.
